We've been big fans of Safe Harbors since Tricia Haggerty-Wenz and her crew took over the rundown Hotel Newburgh 10 years ago and transformed it from a welfare SRO into the thriving, clean, supportive Cornerstone Residence. Safe Harbors' work ever since has been one of the brightest spots in a city that can seem very dark indeed.
This Friday, Safe Harbors hosts a special silent auction, raffle, and concert at the Ritz Theater (located in the Cornerstone Residence) on from 6-9 pm. Over 50 works of art will be auctioned, and there will be gift basket raffles and greeting cards and CDs for sale. A highlight of the evening will be a special musical performance by MUSE, an early music chamber ensemble. The performers for Friday night will include: Suzanne Clune, soprano, Jennifer Ponzoni, mezzo, Robert Puleo, tenor, Jonathan Dobin, baritone, Lynn Cunnigham, flautist, Rachel Grazzo, clarinetist, Donna Kushner, violinist, Greg Phillips, cellist and contra-dancers Barbara Kidney and Andrew Dalton.
Proceeds from sale of the silent auctioned artworks will benefit both early music chamber ensemble MUSE and Safe Harbors of the Hudson Valley. Safe Harbors of the Hudson is a Newburgh-based nonprofit organization whose mission is transforming lives and building communities through housing and the arts. Safe Harbors encourages active Hudson Valley artists to live and work in the Cornerstone Residence and adjoining artist studio space.
