November 17. One of the very first psychedelic garage bands, the Blues Project is in many ways the American equivalent of Britain’s Yardbirds: an act that used electric blues and R&B as a jumping-off point to experiment with folk, jazz, and ethnic forms within a rock context. Begun in 1965, the band briefly included organist Al Kooper and the late Artie Traum and was a Greenwich Village mainstay, regularly performing at hotspots like the Cafe Au Go Go, where it recorded an outstanding live album. This show at the Bearsville Theater boasts original guitarists Danny Kalb and Steve Katz (Blood, Sweat & Tears) and drummer Roy Blumenfeld.
